Cops are second jobbers

MORE than 80 officers with Lothian and Borders Police have second jobs in sectors including the music, sports, computer and retail industries.

The force gives permission for 84 of its officers to hold secondary employment. Officers have to be granted permission to take on additional jobs, and there can be “no conflict of interest” with their duties.

The second posts also include officers running their own businesses, renting properties, doing charity work and driving jobs.

A force spokesman said: “We have a clear policy in place regarding paid employment outwith the force, for both officers and police staff.

“Any employees who wish to take up secondary employment must first of all apply for permission to do so.”
