Community groups await grant verdict

TWO Morningside community groups are hoping to get grants to help them improve facilities.

The Falcon Tennis and Bowling Club in Newbattle Terrace has requested 4000 from City of Edinburgh Council's community grants fund.

It wants to put the money towards carrying out repairs to the edging of its bowling green, which would make it easier and safer for older and disabled members.

The Midmar Allotments Association has applied for 1770 to fund the provision of nesting and hibernation boxes for a range of wildlife species. The group hopes to create new homes for wildlife in a bid to promote the biodiversity of the site in Midmar Drive.

An information board and educational material will also be created for allotment users.

Both schemes have been recommended for funding and a decision will be made at tonight's meeting of the South Central Neighbourhood Partnership.
