Community group gives backing to skatepark
A LOCAL community group is backing plans for a controversial skatepark in Saughton – despite 500 objections from residents.
Stenhouse Community Council has offered its support for the 750,000 purpose-built facility at Saughton Park.
Secretary Elaine Leggate said: "The skatepark proposal has the full support of Stenhouse Community Council. The area has been assessed by the police for safety and the plans provide CCTV, which is a great thing."
She added: "We hope that the skatepark will be the first step in the regeneration of Saughton Park. Our aim is to get people using the park."
An exhibition of the skatepark proposals is currently on display in Balgreen Library.
Around 500 people have written to the city council's planning department objecting to the proposals.
