Community counts down to new school for Breich

CONSTRUCTION has got under way on a new primary school in a West Lothian village.

The new £2 million school, in Breich, will replace the ageing Woodmuir Primary School, and is due to be completed by summer 2013.

Facilities include a new multi-use games area, which will also be available for the local community and outwith school hours.

Principal teacher Nicola Hamilton said: “The whole school community is absolutely delighted at the prospect of a new school being built, which would benefit everyone living in Breich.”

Pupils were joined on site as work got under way by deputy council leader Cathy Muldoon, who said: “Everyone is extremely positive about the new school. The existing school isn’t fit for purpose but the new building will offer modern, high-quality accommodation with the potential for greater flexibility in terms of how the space is used. For example, at the moment, pupils have to go to other schools to access PE facilities, and the new school will ensure that is a thing of the past.

“The new facilities will also benefit the local community and provide great facilities for use outwith school hours.”

Executive councillor for education Lawrence Fitzpatrick said: “The new school will deliver a tremendous building for the community, supporting regeneration and education in the
village.”
