Colin cooks up award for his catering care

A CATERING manager at the city council is to receive a lifetime achievement award.

Colin Kennedy, who has worked for the council for 35 years, will be given honorary lifetime membership to the National Association of Care Catering.

The catering and domestic service manager for the health and social care department will accept the membership later this year.

Mr Kennedy and his team provide advice to managers in Edinburgh's care homes.

The team takes part in nutritional screening to monitor the weight of older people, to ensure under-nutrition is addressed as soon as they become care home residents.

Mr Kennedy said: "The aim of the association has always been to promote and enrich the standard of catering within the care sector and this award reflects the input I have made through my work in Edinburgh, which has contributed to the development of nationally recognised standards for care catering."

The city's health and social care leader, Paul Edie, added: "I would like to congratulate Colin and his team for all their hard work in this area. Health and nutrition in our services is something the council takes very seriously."
