City tributes to health pioneer Sir John Crofton

CITY councillors have paid tribute to the eminent health pioneer Sir John Crofton, who died last month at the age of 97.

A motion by Tory councillor Jason Rust, passed by the council, has recognised the Dublin-born medic, who worked from a study in Colinton.

Sir John developed the cure for TB in Edinburgh in 1954, and is credited with saving at least ten million lives.

In his motion, Cllr Rust said: "The benefits of Sir John's achievements in the field of respiratory disease have been felt locally, nationally and internationally."
