City to host global summit on importance of culture

A GLOBAL conference debating the power of culture in building international relationships is being hosted in the Capital this summer – with 40 countries being represented.

The inaugural Edinburgh International Culture Summit will see prominent artists and thinkers discuss culture with Scottish politicians and MPs from other UK countries.

The event is a collaboration between the Scottish Government, the UK Government, the Edinburgh International Festival and the British Council and will be hosted in the Scottish Parliament at the height of the Edinburgh Festival, on August 13 and 14.

A spokesman said: “In the Year of Creative Scotland and the London 2012 Festival, in one of the world’s most famous festival cities, the summit will celebrate and enhance that reputation.

“The International Culture Summit is a collaboration between four partner organisations – the Scottish Government, the UK Government, the British Council and the Edinburgh International Festival. The conference theme will be ‘culture as an international dialogue.”
