City parents get together to shine light on dull courtyard
PARENTS have transformed a dull courtyard garden at a community centre in the north of the Capital into an inviting space.
They joined with staff and youngsters at the Granton Child and Family Centre, on Wardieburn Road, to revamp the facility for use by all members.
Centre manager Moira Robertson said: "The courtyard used to be a horrible dark and dingy area which we had previously tried to develop but it kept getting vandalised.
"This time we wanted to get the local community involved so that there was a sense of pride and ownership about the space."
Volunteers planted flowers and herbs, as well as creating mosaics, to transform the area, which was opened officially at the end of last month.
The centre is currently running a Growing Confidence project to promote emotional wellbeing in communities. The courtyard project formed part of the scheme, allowing people to develop relationships and connections with others in their neighbourhood.
