City leader steps down from roles

A SENIOR city leader has stepped down from a number of council-owned companies.

Tom Buchanan has left Marketing Edinburgh, which attracts visitors and film productions to the city, and the developer Waterfront Edinburgh, responsible for regeneration in north Edinburgh.

The politician, who is undergoing treatment for a brain tumour, has also stepped down from Gyle Developments and Capital City Partnership, which drives the city’s jobs strategy.

However, he is said to be determined to remain as economic development leader, a role tasked with attracting major investors to the city.

Frank Ross, a fellow Nationalist councillor, will take over Buchanan’s roles.

Cllr Buchanan underwent surgery to remove a tumour in March and returned to the City Chambers just four weeks later. He is currently undergoing further treatment.
