City firefighters deal with three blazes in eight hours
INVESTIGATIONS have been launched into three major fires in Edinburgh properties over an eight-hour period at the weekend.
In one incident, crews had to deal with intense heat and thick smoke engulfing all the floors of an empty terraced house.
Firefighters had been called to Cameron Park at about 10:50pm on Saturday after neighbours noticed smoke pouring out of the roof space.
Ten firefighters wearing breathing equipment battled the flames.
An 80-year-old man and a woman aged around 84, who lived next door, were treated for smoke inhalation but did not require hospital treatment.
A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said: “The heat was intense and the fire crews experienced a severe heat barrier on entering the property.”
Earlier on Saturday night, crews were called to a fire in a first-floor flat in Oxgangs Gardens. No-one was hurt
In the final incident, firefighters were called to Muirhouse Park at 3:30 on Sunday morning, to tackle a fire in a storage rea of the common stairway in a three-storey block of flats.
The blaze was extinguished and a 46-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
A fire service spokeswoman said that investigations were under way into the cause of all three blazes.
