City asylum seeker film scoops global award
A FILM about asylum seekers in Edinburgh has won an award at a US film festival.
Trouble Sleeping is set among a group of asylum seekers from the Middle East and North Africa living in the Capital.
The film was made with the help of asylum seekers in Edinburgh.
It tells of their constant battle to convince the authorities they should be allowed to stay in the UK.
Screened at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June, it has also been shown on BBC2.
The film won the prize for Best Narrative Feature at the Peace on Earth Film Festival in Chicago and is the first feature film made by Edinburgh's Theatre Workshop, renowned for its work with community groups.
It was co-produced with Makar Productions, which previously made Blind Flight, the story of Brian Keenan's and John McCarthy's kidnapping.
