Chemical leak scare hits Sick Kids hospital
THE reception area at the Sick Kids hospital had to be evacuated last night following a chemical leak.
Ammonia is understood to have leaked from a domestic fridge in the hospital, which is in Sciennes Road.
Firefighters were called to deal with the incident, which happened just after 9.30pm.
Members of the public and staff were evacuated to safety while the leak, thought to be from part of the unit's cooling system, was dealt with.
A fire service spokeswoman said: "Firefighters removed and isolated the fridge and used fans to blow fresh air into the building.
"One member of staff removed himself to accident and emergency suffering from smoke inhalation."
