Charity cash running out
CASH reserves are running out fast for Scotland’s small and medium-sized charities, a new report said today.
The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations said smaller charities were feeling the worst effects of funding cuts, with most of them spending more than they had coming in.
Despite a modest increase in income for larger charities and housing associations, turnover had still not returned to 2009 levels.
SCVO chief executive Martin Sime said: “Organisations are being forced to use what assets and reserves they have left to keep their doors open for as long as possible.
“With ever growing demand set to skyrocket as the UK welfare cuts kick in, third sector organisations are facing an impossible conundrum.”
