Centenary celebration planned for Montrose airfield
A CENTENARY exhibition will open this month to mark the establishment of Britain’s first operational military airfield.
The Royal Flying Corps set up its first air station at Montrose, Angus, on 26 February 1913.
An exhibition charting its history entitled Montrose’s Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines will be opened at the air station museum on 23 February by the Provost of Angus, councillor Helen Osward, with men from 2 Squadron, the first based at Montrose.
Alan Doe, chairman of Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre, said: “This will provide a fascinating insight into the history of Montrose Air Station.”
