CCTV footage under review after group is subjected to ‘unprovoked’ racial abuse and assault in Dundee

POLICE are reviewing CCTV footage and appealing for witnesses after a group of young people were racially abused in Dundee city centre at the weekend.

• One of the group was also assaulted by the two men, described as being between 16 and 20 years of age

A group of men and women, made up of people of Pakistani origin, were subjected to verbal abuse by two young men before the suspects punched and kicked one of the men. They continued to shout offensive remarks as they left the scene.

The incident which Tayside Police have described as “unprovoked” took place in Albert Square, Dundee, at 12.05am on Sunday.

The two young men are both described as being between 16 and 20 years of age and about 5ft 8in tall with short, dark hair.

One of the suspects was of a slim build and was wearing a black hoodie and dark jeans, while the other, who was carrying a black guitar case, wore a light-coloured tracksuit possibly with a blue band to the front or sleeve

The victim was taken to Ninewells Hospital after being assaulted.

His injuries were not thought to be life threatening.
