Castle cliff rescue drama

A MAN had to be rescued after plunging down steps at a historic cliff-top castle.

The 36-year-old had been visting Dunnottar Castle in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire with his wife and child when the accident took place yesterday afternoon.

It took two ambulance crews and six members of the local coastguard to rescue the man so he could be transferred to hospital. He suffered a broken leg.

A spokesman for the coastguard said: “We received a request for assistance at 12:58pm and our guys were there at 13:17pm.

“If you look at the castle, there are very steep embankments and the ambulance crew needed manpower and assistance to move the man.”
