Cards made by prisoners give charity £250 present

DISADVANTAGED children have received Christmas presents from prisoners at HMP Addiewell.

Homemade cards created by the inmates involved in the jail’s “Acardemy” project were sold to prisoners and staff, with 20 per cent from each sale going to charity River Kids.

The drive saw £250 donated to the West Lothian-based charity’s Toy Appeal.

Wendy Simpson, charity coordinator at River Kids, said: “It is just amazing to receive such great support from the prisoners at Addiewell.

“The money will help purchase 25 toys for local disadvantaged children who would otherwise have gone without this Christmas.

“Our appreciation goes to everyone involved in this unique and exciting project.”

It is the second year that the project has donated to the organisation.
