Canna in the Inner Hebrides population drops from 14 to 12

A TINY island’s population has dropped from 14 to 12 after a couple decided to quit, blaming poor management by the National Trust for Scotland (NTS).

Graham and Olivia Uney are leaving Canna, in the Inner Hebrides, to live in Shetland.

The move is a blow for the trust, which has been battling to halt a steady decline in Canna’s population. As recently as 2010, 22 people called it home.

Mr Uney, who was employed as a gardener by NTS, wrote on a blog: “Very frustrated with the management of the island, and upset to be leaving behind such a wonderful place, and some truly lovely people.”
