Cancer patient sells artwork to help victims
AN artist who painted landscapes in the south of France as an escape from the chemotherapy he was receiving for lung cancer is auctioning off one of his works for charity.
George Devlin, who is now in remission from the disease, painted The Canal du Midi during his illness and has donated the work – worth 6500 – to Macmillan Cancer Support's annual fundraising art sale.
He said: "Getting into the studio when I was ill was the best therapy I had, so I will be delighted if I can help others through my painting. I feel very strongly that it's important that someone who has cancer has access to the support they need to get the most out of their life. This is the kind of support Macmillan offers."
The painting will be sold at the charity's annual Edinburgh Art Show at Lyon & Turnbull in Broughton Place between October 30 and November 2, along with hundreds of works ranging from those by amateurs costing well under 100 up to many on offer from professionals.
Macmillan hopes to raise around 30,000 from the event.
