Campaign for Scotland's own national anthem stepped up

MOVES by The Scotsman to give Scotland a national anthem of its own will be stepped up today with the support of politicians, writers and broadcasters.

The Scottish Green Party is to host a meeting to discuss how to act on calls for God Save the Queen to be replaced.

An extract from the BBC Scotland programme Writing Scotland, which argued for Robert Burns’ A Man’s A Man, will be screened. John Archer, a former director of Scottish Screen, and writer Carl MacDougall will then chair discussion.

Green MSP Chris Ballance will talk about the parliamentary route to a new anthem. George Reid, an Edinburgh pensioner who submitted a petition to the Scottish Parliament for a new anthem, will also be present.
