Bus company agrees to stick to school route

PARENTS have welcomed the decision by Lothian Buses to stick to a route that is used by dozens of children travelling to and from school.

Many parents had complained about the decision to re-route the 45 bus so that it no longer went along Lauriston Place.

The 45 service is used by pupils travelling from the south-west of the city to George Heriot's School.

The bus company had initially planned to change the route to Princes Street to improve passenger numbers, as it was little used outside school hours, but it has now postponed any move due to the tram works in the city centre.

Councillor Jason Rust, who represents Colinton and Fairmilehead, said: "At a time when the council are actively promoting safe routes to schools it was of real concern that pupils were going to face the prospect of having to cross at the busy Tollcross junction or wait around for further services at Home Street.

"Parents are delighted that the route change has been put on hold and I will be monitoring any future review of this route."
