Bus bosses win disabled access prize
BUS chiefs have picked up a top award after making their fleet more accessible to people with disabilities.
Lothian Buses won the Scottish Disability and Business Award at the recent Scottish Council for Development and Industry Awards.
The award was in recognition of the company's work to make its fleet of buses accessible to people with disabilities ahead of government legislation.
Since 1 September, all buses operated on regular services by Lothian Buses feature step-free access, a retractable boarding ramp, a dedicated wheelchair space, a flat lower deck and high visibility handrails.
Lothian Buses chairman Pilmar Smith, said: "It was an honour to receive this award which is in recognition of the years of investment in a modern, accessible fleet and of course a tremendous tribute to our staff whose professionalism is renowned."
