Brother’s ‘anger over boy’s abuse’

A BROTHER of a primary school pupil allegedly shut inside in a bag and hung from the ceiling has told a court how he got angry when his sibling was bound with tape and used as a punchbag.

The 15-year-old said his eight-year-old brother had “bruises all up and down his body” as a result of punches inflicted by Jim Menzies on a daily basis.

He told a jury at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday that he witnessed the repeated assaults and personally suffered “dead arms” and “dead legs” when the accused punched him repeatedly.

The youngsters cannot be named for legal reasons.

Menzies, 35, from East Whitburn, West Lothian, has pleaded not guilty to assaulting the eight-year-old and putting Sellotape around the youngster’s hands and feet and locking him in his room.

The trial continues.
