Boy, 11, fights for life after pool incident
AN eleven year-old schoolboy was in a serious condition in hospital last night after being pulled from the bottom of Scotland’s only remaining heated outdoor pool.
The boy was rushed to Aberdeen Royal infirmary after being spotted lying unconscious at the bottom of the large seawater pool at Stonehaven, in Aberdeenshire, at lunchtime.
The pool is run by Aberdeenshire Council and the local authority has launched an investigation into the incident.
A spokeswoman for Grampian Police said: “Grampian Police are investigating an incident which occurred at Stonehaven outdoor swimming pool earlier this afternoon, whereby an 11-year-old boy was found unconscious in the water.
“The young boy concerned was taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where he is currently in the care of medical staff. He is said to be in a serious condition.”
The swimming pool was closed while police made enquiries.
A spokesman for Aberdeenshire Council said: “We can confirm a boy was recovered from Stonehaven open air swimming pool and was taken to hospital by ambulance. We have launched an investigation.”
