Bottle attacker left victim needing 40 stitches on his face
A TEENAGER who left his victim needing 40 stitches on his face after he hit him with a glass bottle in a street brawl has been ordered to carry out probation for two years.
Conor Edmonds, 16, was today warned if he breaches his order he faces custody.
Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard the 15-year-old victim had been at a park with a group of friends and was about to leave when he was shouted on and he and his friends were then confronted by a group of 15 to 20 youths.
At an earlier hearing fiscal depute John Kirk said a large scale disturbance broke out, during which Edmonds confronted his victim and then struck him on the face with a bottle.
Mr Kirk said: "The complainer was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
"He was found to have sustained a large hook shape laceration to his cheek."
The court heard the boy required surgery which involved 40 small stitches and will leave him with a permanent scar.
Edmonds, of Granton Crescent, Edinburgh, admitted while acting along with others striking his victim on the face with a glass bottle to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
The attack happened at Scotland Yard Park, Edinburgh, on May 29 last year.
Sheriff Elizabeth Jarvie QC told first offender Edmonds: "This is a serious matter, there is no doubt about that.
"I have read the reports available to the court and you have nothing outstanding.
"I am prepared to deal with this by a lengthy and onerous probation order.
"If you breach the order you will be brought back and sentenced to custody."
