Body of missing Perth man pulled from river

THE body of a missing Perth man has been recovered from the River Tay, Tayside Police confirmed today.

A massive search involving an RAF search and rescue helicopter, firefighters and police officers was launched at the weekend after Charles Cuthbert, 63, was reported missing missing from his home in the city.

He vanished after setting out from his home to to go to the recycling centre at Friarton on Saturday afternoon. His body was recovered from the river on Sunday afternoon.

A spokesman for Tayside Police said: “Tayside Police can confirm the identity of a man found deceased in the River Tay on Sunday as Charles Cuthbert who was previously reported missing from Perth. Police, an RAF rescue helicopter and Fire Brigade personnel were engaged in significant search enquiries before Mr Cuthbert was found. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.”

He continued: ”The death is still being treated as unexplained but there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances and, as is the case with all sudden deaths, a report of the circumstances is being submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

During the search Mr Cuthbert’s daughter Tracey had posted a poignant appeal for help from members of the public in message on the force’s Facebook page.

She wrote: “This is completely out of character for my Dad. He is a strong family man who is very excited for the arrival of his first grandchild. Something must have happened to him and he might be lost or wandering Perth confused. We need him to come home, he is our world.”

Mr Cuthbert is survived by wife Irene and daughters Tracey and Louise.
