Body of missing pensioner found near River Earn
THE body of a missing pensioner has been found close to the River Earn in Perthshire.
John Styles, 77, from Perth, had last been seen alive in Crieff on 11 July when he parked his black-coloured Kia car in the town’s Gallowhill.
Tayside Police search officers and Tayside mountain rescue team volunteers used a raft to search the swollen River Earn last week as concerns increased for the missing pensioner.
And a force spokesman said: “Tayside Police can confirm that a man whose body was discovered near to Mills of Earn, Crieff, at about 7.45pm on Monday has been formally identified. He has been named as 77 year-old missing person John Styles.”
The spokesman continued: “Mr Styles’ family would like to express their gratitude to the media and the public for their kind support during this recent ordeal, and also Tayside Police for the helpful, constructive, supportive and sensitive way the enquiry was handled.
“A report on the matter will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
