Bionic hand waves hello in China launch
A LOTHIAN company which has developed the world's first commercially available bionic hand has launched the product in China.
Livingston-based Touch Bionics officially launched the i-LIMB Hand, the world's most advanced upper limb prosthetic device, at an event in China on Friday.
Representatives from the Education and Lifelong Learning Directorates of Scotland, Scottish Development International and the Chinese Rehabilitation Association attended the event to witness the unveiling of the groundbreaking device.
More than 600 i-LIMB hands have been sold worldwide in 30 countries, and Gaurav Mishra, Touch Bionics' director of international sales said: "With the introduction of new medical reforms, we hope that advanced devices like the i-LIMB Hand will become easily available to all citizens in China."
Since its debut, the cutting-edge prosthetic has been recognised with numerous awards and accolades, including the MacRobert Award by the UK Royal Academy of Engineering.
Jack Perry, chief executive of Scottish Enterprise, said: "It is excellent to see a Scottish company leading the way in this field on the global stage."
