Bikers’ big surprise for RNLI crews

COASTGUARD crews have been given a financial boost thanks to a surprise donation – as they returned from a rescue.

Hundreds of bikers were waiting for the RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat team members when they arrived back from an incident.

Crewmen Iain Leil, Michael Garfitt and Ross Denver were called out to assist a dismasted catamaran off the coast of Fife at Dalgety Bay on Sunday. As they went ashore at South Queensferry, they were in for a shock after 400 motorcylists from across Scotland presented them with £2000.

The event was organised by biker Kev Meldrum, and included a barbecue, home baking and raffle.

Hamish Campbell, from the Queensferry Lifeboat Station said: “We had no idea they were doing this.

“We’re all very pleasantly surprised.”
