Back to school, but no power in many buildings in Glasgow

HUNDREDS of households, businesses and public buildings in Glasgow were left without power yesterday morning as city schools re-opened for the new term.

Scottish Power said a faulty electricity substation at Haggs Road, Pollokshaws, caused power failures just before 7am.

Two hospitals – the Victoria Infirmary and Southern General Hospital – were also affected, but there were no major problems as generators kicked in immediately to provide a back-up electricity supply.

Scottish Power confirmed that the electricity supply was restored around half an hour later.
