Baby charity to expand

A CHARITY which works with the parents of stillborn children is to open its first office in West Lothian.

Sands Lothian, which exposed the Mortonhall Crematorium ashes scandal in December last year, plans to open in the Craigsfarm area of Livingston next month.

Operations manager Dorothy Maitland said it would help cut a growing waiting list for Sands’ support and counselling services.

She said the extra demand was linked to the charity exposing the practice of burying the cremated ashes of new and stillborn babies without their parents’ knowledge

A plaque with contact advice for grieving parents will also be unveiled at the baby burial ground at Craigmillar Castle Park Cemetery, on Old Dalkeith Road, tomorrow.
