BAA 'should drop city airport'

THE boss of an Edinburgh-based airline has backed a ruling by the competition watchdog that BAA must sell off one of its two main Scottish airports.

And Flyglobespan chairman Tom Dalrymple said Scottish air travellers would be better off if BAA were forced to get rid of Edinburgh Airport rather than Glasgow.

He said: "There is no doubt that bringing in an element of competition into the Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow BAA monopoly will be good for the air traveller.

"But BAA should be told to sell Edinburgh. Glasgow already has a competitor with Prestwick, while Edinburgh has no such similar rival."

BAA said it was "disappointed" the Competition Commission was still insisting it must sell one of its Scottish airports, but welcomed the fact it would now be allowed to decide which one.
