Awards on the menu for 30 city chefs

A RECORD number of local chefs have been nominated for recognition at the Scottish Chef Awards, considered the culinary equivalent of the Oscars.

In total, more than 30 local chefs will be competing for a range of titles, with Jean Michel Gauffre of La Garrigue, Malcolm Webster of the Sheraton Grand, Sean Kelly of Abstract and Stuart Muir of Harvey Nichols' Forth Floor restaurant all nominated for Chef of the Year.

William Toncelet, of Atholl at the Howard in Edinburgh, Roy Brett, of the Dakota North Queensferry, and John McMahon, of Prestonfield House, have all been nominated for Hotel Chef of the Year.

Glasshouse chef Steve Adair has been nominated for Restaurant Chef of the Year, alongside Jason Gallagher of Stockbridge Restaurant, Richard Glennie of Zucca and Daniella Cocchia of Osteria.

Organiser Brian Hannan, of the Cookery School in Glasgow, said:

"Since I launched the Scottish Chef Awards more than a dozen years ago, I have seen standards continue to rise, so much so that in this current year we now have more recognised top chefs than at any other time in history."

The winners will be announced at a Gala Dinner in front of over 200 chefs at the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow on Sunday May 10.
