Athletes hope for asylum in the long run
A GROUP of athletes have been allowed to remain in Scotland after competing in the World Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh.
Three men and three women from Eritrea have applied for asylum, and four have already been granted. The last two hope to hear their cases have been successful this week.
The news means that the runners could be eligible to compete for Scotland in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The group includes junior and senior world championship finalists and some have won medals in international events. Some of their personal best times are faster than existing Scottish records.
