Art auction to aid students

A PAINTING offering a view of the Capital from Blackford Hill is being auctioned to help students enrol at a city university.

Award-winning artist Gordon McDowell’s work is to be sold on eBay, with the money raised used to fund access bursaries at Edinburgh University.

The painting is expected to sell for £5000. It is the first time that a charity internet auction has been used to raise funds for the university.

Mr McDowell has twice been named winner of the Watercolour of the Year competition. The image was donated to the university’s Alumni Association by graduate Mark Astaire.

It is available for viewing at Old College reception. The auction ends on October 30.
