Army charity gets support from Gers

Rangers manager Ally McCoist has said the club is delighted to be supporting the Army’s national charity.

McCoist was at Edinburgh Castle as the One O’clock Gun was fired yesterday, to confirm that the club’s charity foundation hopes to raise £25,000 for the ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.

The charity has worked with soldiers and veterans from every conflict since World War Two. Last year it supported more than 4,000 people.

McCoist said: “I have mentioned this many times: the men and women who serve their country are real heroes.”

Major General Martin Rutledge, the charity’s chief executive, said: “Long after our soldiers are back from Afghanistan, with public support, we will continue to be here for them.”
