Armed robbery at petrol filling station

Police are hunting for two men who robbed a petrol station attendant at gunpoint.

They entered the Shell filling station in Portland Place, Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, at about 8:30pm on Tuesday and one of the men threatened a female member of staff with a firearm.

They made off with a small amount of cash and some cigarettes, police said. The woman was said to have been “badly shaken” but was otherwise unharmed.

Detective Inspector David Tassie said: “Officers are carrying out door-to-door inquiries and examining CCTV footage.

“This has been a very frightening experience for the member of staff within the filling station.

“At the time of the incident there was a lot of traffic in the area.

“I would appeal to people to get in touch with us.”
