Appeal to pub customers in Dundee murder hunt

DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a 50-year-old man in Dundee last weekend have appealed for the help of pub patrons and householders in the Whitfield area in tracing the killer.

John McMurchie, from Errol in Perthshire, was pronounced dead at Ninewells Hospital after being found seriously injured in Fintry Terrace, near its junction with Whitfield Drive, about 4am last Sunday.

A team of 20 officers were yesterday deployed to search a large area of the lower Whitfield area in the search for clues to the murder.

And Detective Inspector Bobby Dow, who is heading the investigation, appealed to residents to play their part.

He said: “Clearly, John was found seriously injured in the street. We are scouring the area to see if there is anything that can be found to help us establish exactly what happened to him.

“We are carrying out our searches, but the public can also assist, and I would appeal to them to check the area around them. If they find anything unusual or out of place – leave it where it is and contact the
police.”

Officers are also still trying to trace two people who were spotted between 3:55am and 4am in an area known locally as the
centre path, a short distance from the Whitfield Family
Resource Centre.

Mr McMurchie, a Dundee United fan, had been socialising with others in pubs in Dundee, including the Dolphin Bar in Fintry from 5pm on the day he died.

He then moved on to the
Balmore Bar and the Albert Bar.
