Appeal for diabetes care

A GROUP of diabetes experts has called on Holyrood to do more to help young people with the condition.

A new report, launched at the Scottish Parliament, made 11 recommendations which focus on how to improve care transitions – when young people move from child to adult care.

Among the recommendations are calls for increased patient support, greater use of technology and service re-=design. The report was published by the Scottish Diabetes Think Tank.

Chair of the group and incoming president of the International Diabetes Federation, Sir Michael Hirst, said: “Young people with type 1 diabetes have particular needs which have not always been adequately serviced. I encourage policy makers to take note of the recommendations within the report, and act on them.”
