Anti-Muslim rally to clash with festival
ANTI–Muslim protesters are to stage a march in Edinburgh on the same day as a Middle East film festival is held in the city.
The right-wing Scottish Defence League (SDL) is preparing to hold its rally on 20 February and is reportedly already circulating an e-mail advertising the date.
The event will also coincide with a Hearts vs Hamilton game, sparking fears the group hopes to attract football casuals to its cause.
Conservative justice spokesman Bill Aitken said the protesters would not be welcome in the Capital.
He said: "I really do not see any need for this type of demonstration which is divisive and can in itself stir up trouble."
The Middle East film festival will be held at the Filmhouse, on Lothian Road, as part of a month-long Middle East Peace Festival.
Last month, the SDL staged a march in Glasgow, descending into violence involving anti-fascist protesters.
