Anti-fascism posters go up ahead of rally
A SERIES of anti-fascist posters have been slapped across parts of the Capital in the lead up to a controversial rally.
The posters, from the Unite Against Fascism group, are protesting about plans by the far-right Scottish Defence League to hold a march on 20 February.
Many of the posters, with slogans like "Nazis not welcome here", have appeared around the main university areas and across the south of the city.
They have been criticised by local Conservative councillor Cameron Rose, who said they are "polarising influence" and "deliberately adding to the hype" created around the SDL march.
"If the Scottish Defence League do turn up that is a matter for the police to take action," said Cllr Rose, who suggested that the SDL march would be illegal as police have not been informed about it.
"The prospect of Unite Against Fascism creating a confrontation will simply make the situation more complex for the police, who are the proper authorities to deal with public order."
