Adult literacy DVD claims national prize
AN EDUCATIONAL DVD aimed at helping adults learn to read and write has been handed the top prize at a national awards ceremony.
West Lothian Council's Adult Basic Education (ABE) service was recognised at the prestigious annual Adult Learner Awards in Edinburgh for their Strictly Come Spelling DVD.
The film is a lighted-hearted story based on Cinderella, which was designed to raise awareness of ABE in a fun and non-threatening manner, drawing on the personal experiences of adult literacy of the cast and crew.
The project was funded by a 4000 grant from the National Lottery's Award for All fund, which allowed the team to develop, produce and star in the production.
Councillor Andrew Miller, the council's education leader, said: "I'm delighted that the DVD has been recognised."
