Academy in team-up with young artists

A SELECTION of the best works by emerging artists in Scotland will go on display at the Royal Scottish Academy.

The academy has changed its annual Student Exhibition so that contributors can showcase a selection of their works, instead of single pieces in isolation.

They have chosen artists from degree shows this year to put forward paintings, sculptures, prints, photographs and installations for the exhibition.

Academy bosses hope to build up a lasting relationship with the young artists and support them in their future careers.

Academy programme director Colin Greenslade said: "This exhibition will be one of the most important initiatives for emerging artists in Scotland each year, enabling a 'first exhibition' opportunity for more than 60 emergent artists annually.

"The exhibition will be a unique opportunity to see the best of Scotland's emerging talent under one roof." The artworks can be seen between 14 and 25 February at the gallery on the Mound. There will also be a series of talks and events accompanying it
