Aberdeen cashless car parking to cover city

ABERDEEN City Council today announced plans to roll out its cashless parking payments scheme across the city.

The scheme, which allows motorists to pay for their parking over the phone, instead of buying a parking ticket, and extend their parking time without returning to their vehicle, has been available in council-run car parks for a year.

And, as a result of its growing popularity, the payment method is now to be made available in all pay and display parking areas.

A council spokeswoman said: “More than 40,000 transactions have been made through the PayByPhone system since it was introduced to council car parks last December, with 4,500 people signing up to the service in Aberdeen.”

Councillor Barney Crocket, the leader of the council, said: “The PayByPhone service has proven to be extremely popular with people using council car parks and I am sure the extension of the scheme across the city will be welcomed by all.

“Cash-free payment systems are widely used for parking across the UK and are very user friendly. The reminder and top-up facilities are particularly useful and allow people to go about their business knowing they don’t have to dash back to their vehicle to renew a parking ticket. The PayByPhone extension will make it easier to shop, socialise, visit, and do business throughout Aberdeen.”
