A roar of Scottish fervour
THE Lion Rampant flag is today flying next to the Saltire above the Scottish Government's headquarters, to mark the first St Andrew's Day under a Nationalist administration. Workers were allowed to take the day as a public holiday under legislation passed last year, but most of the country was expected to be working.
First Minister Alex Salmond is one of the Crown representatives permitted to use the Royal Arms of Scotland. He decided both the Saltire and the Lion Rampant should fly outside St Andrew's House in Regent Road today.
He said: "The Saltire is the flag of Scotland and the Lion Rampant is the people's flag."
