Minnie Hamilton was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but died on December 12

A 94-year-old woman knocked down and fatally injured as she crossed a road had been riding pillion on a motorbike just weeks before, her friends said.

Minnie Hamilton was struck by a blue Citreon C8 on Bavelaw Road, Balerno, at about 11.20am on December 10.

The former housekeeper, of Harlaw Road, died of multiple injuries at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary two days later.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them with
information.

Cath Lear, manager of The Malleny Arms where she was a regular, said Minnie had excitedly told her she was going for the ride and later showed her a photograph.

“She was an absolute gem, we can’t believe she’s gone,” she said. “I heard there’d been an accident but didn’t know it was Minnie until a regular came in later. It’s just so sad.

“Minnie was such a character. It was only a few weeks ago she was telling me about her motorcycle ride.

“The pub has started a collection for flowers as it is not believed Minnie had many
relatives.”

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the accident.
