£50k grant to fund four city events

Four new events coming to the Capital this year are set to benefit from £50,000 in city council funding.

The council’s culture and sport committee is expected to approve the grants on Tuesday.

The Red Bull Chasers bike racing event featuring BMX, mountain and road riders is coming to Scotland for the first time and will benefit from £15,000 in council funding. The race is being held on the Grassmarket on March 30.

The IFSC European Youth Cup and the Edinburgh 7s Festival, both scheduled for June, will each receive £10,000.

A further £5000 will be given to the inaugural Edinburgh Guitar and Music Festival, which will be run over four days at the Corn Exchange in May.

The Edinburgh 7s Festival taking place at Meggetland Sports Complex will be framed around the Scottish leg of the newly-formed Great Britain Rugby Sevens series being broadcast on Sky
Sports.

Meanwhile, sponsorship has been secured for the ATP Champions of Tennis event in June, meaning a planned £50,000 contribution for that event has been withdrawn.
