£30m fund for more students
DOZENS of extra places have been made available for students at Edinburgh University after new funding was announced.
The extra £30 million is aimed to boost energy, financial and business services, food and drink, life sciences, tourism and creative industries. The money, allocated by the Scottish Funding Council, will provide 850 places in each of the next five years across 18 Scottish universities – 92 of them at Edinburgh.
Education secretary Mike Russell said: “Hundreds more postgraduate students will be able to pursue their specialities in key economic areas such as the energy, life sciences, creative industries, construction and health.
“Scotland’s highly skilled workforce is an important factor in attracting inward investment.”
