£80,000 boost for cinemas
CINEMAGOERS with visual or hearing difficulties will have a whole new world of film opened up to them thanks to the installation of new audio description and subtitling equipment.
The scheme, run by Scottish Screen and funded by the Scottish Arts Council Lottery Fund, has resulted in the installation of new facilities at Cineworld Fountainpark, the Odeon at Wester Hailes and Vue cinemas at Leith Walk and Ocean Terminal.
They are among 22 cinemas across Scotland to have received a share of 80,000 of investment.
Lisa Kapur, of the Scottish Arts Council said: "An estimated 180,000 people in Scotland are blind or partially sighted and over 750,000 people have some degree of hearing impairment. This new scheme will allow greater access to and enjoyment of cinema in venues across the country."
