£10k charity bid by dad who beat cancer 8 times

A FATHER-of-two who beat cancer eight times is raising thousands of pounds for the charity that helped him cope.

Lawrence Stewart, 31, was first diagnosed with cancer at the age of 14 and since then has fought tumours in his brain, lungs, liver and stomach.

The former bank manager of Bathgate, West Lothian, said: "I'm still here and I just keep fighting on. I have never smoked or anything like that.

"And I don't think it is genetic as my mum and dad have never had cancer. It is just one of those things, I suppose."

Currently in remission, Mr Stewart hopes, along with friends and family, to raise more than 10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support by taking part in the Longest Day Golf Challenge.

He said the fundraising was to say thank-you to the Macmillan nurses who have helped him, wife Lynsey, and their daughters, Rachel, six, and Abbie, two, cope with his illness.
